Kaya FC–Iloilo 4-0 Green Archers United
25 May 2019 — Kaya FC–Iloilo opened the 2019 Philippines Football League season with a bang on Saturday, dispatching of Green Archers United, 4-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Jordan Mintah ensured Kaya FC–Iloilo got off to the perfect start. Found by Shirmar Felongco’s drilled pass inside the box, the Ghanaian forward was given room to turn and fire jn the opener within 120 seconds from kickoff. The lead was doubled in the 18th minute, through Mintah once more. Tyler Matas’ long throw bounced kindly for the forward, who fired in a clean volley.
Mintah completed his hat-trick before half-time. Found by Jovin Bedic in behind the Archers defense, he got to the ball ahead of the keeper, who bundled him over. The Ghanaian forward stepped up himself to bury the penalty.
In the second half, Jayson Panhay extended Kaya’s lead further just seconds after checking in for Arnel Amita. Spotted by Masanari Omura darting in behind, Panhay kept his cool in front of goal and poked the ball in to make it 4-0.
“If we keep playing this way we can go far,” said Laya Head coach Moel Marcaida. I’m happy with the three points to start the league. It’s a great result and a clean sheet. Moving forward, we need to look to try to finish games the way we start.”
Kaya FC–Iloilo next play Stallion Laguna on Wednesday afternoon, at the Biñan Football Stadium.
