LBC Foundation builds homes with Gawad Kalinga and Kaya Futbol Club

LBC Foundation, the CSR arm of LBC Express Inc, once again shows its commitment to give back to the community with the assistance of Kaya Futbol Club (Kaya F.C.) in supporting Gawad Kalinga for the construction of homes in Trece Martires, Cavite that will benefit 500 families.

This is the second year that the LBC Foundation has supported Gawad Kalinga in its projects. For Kaya F.C., on the other hand, this is the first time that its members are doing volunteer work, helping lay the groundwork for the first batch of homes in the village, digging, brick-laying and cementing the foundations.

Going beyond building houses, they entertained kids from the surrounding area with games that taught the basic skills of football. LBC Foundation and Kaya F.C. also distributed toys to the kids before heading back to Manila.

“LBC Foundation has provided assistance to Gawad Kalinga’s housing projects in Baluarte, QC since last year and we started new projects in Davao and Cebu this year. When Kaya F.C. expressed their desire to contribute, we saw this as an opportunity to enjoin them to help in the housing project. Although this is Kaya’s first time, we plan on making this three-way partnership a long-term commitment to support Gawad Kalinga further,“ says LBC Foundation’s Nena Wuthrich.

Also present during the building event were LBC Foundation president Monica Araneta, Gawad Kalinga area coordinator for Southern Tagalog Bodoy Oquińena, Gawad Kalinga provincial head Egay Purificacion and Kaya F.C. head coach David Perkovic.

“The club isn’t all just about football. We wanted to offer our support by giving back to the community. When we learned that LBC Express Inc has a partnership with Gawad Kalinga through the LBC Foundation, we were inspired with what they’ve done. Our members responded well and we are very enthusiastic to provide the assistance they require to build these homes.” says David Perkovic.

The Gawad Kalinga Village located in Trece Martires aims to relocate 500 families from Intramuros once the first batches of homes are completed. The plans for the village also include the construction of a public school, a fruit orchard, a man-made lagoon and space for organic farming. These facilities will help the village grow and become a self-sustaining community.

LBC Foundation’s partnership with Gawad Kalinga is not limited to building communities but also include the protection of the environment, the establishment of a sustainable livelihood for the poor and development of the nation’s youth.

“With the initiative shown by Kaya F.C., we hope that this three-way cooperative partnership inspires others to offer their support for joint projects such as this. We believe in the holistic approach that Gawad Kalinga undertakes in building communities that benefit our fellow countrymen.” adds Wuthrich.
