Kaya FC Head to Laguna Gunning for Third Straight Win PFL 2023 — Get ready for another thrilling installment of the storied Kaya-Stallion rivalry.

League leaders Kaya FC-Iloilo look to extend their current two-game winning streak, but face a hefty challenge on the road against Stallion Laguna FC.

Team morale has rebounded significantly since the rocky start to the year. With a total of nine goals scored and back-to-back clean sheets kept over the past two fixtures, Kaya’s high-octane playstyle has been firing on all cylinders.

“Since the first win of the year against Mendiola [FC 1991], I think the players have regained their confidence and have been able to show how we want to play,” stated head coach Yu Hoshide.

Putting aside recent results, the Japanese tactician noted a key area of improvement that the team needs to address. If Iloilo want to hold on to their position in the standings down the stretch, better effort and execution will be needed right from the opening whistle.

“I wasn’t happy in the first half because it was a really slow start,” noted Hoshide, reflecting on last week’s bout with Maharlika Manila FC. Even though Kaya controlled the majority of the match, the hosts were the ones to dictate the pace in the opening minutes.

“To start the second half, the players finally showed what we were supposed to do. However, we still need to improve more in that area in order for us to reach our target.”

Nevertheless, Iloilo were able to bounce back and showcase their strengths these past two games. When asked about the turning point, Coach Yu credited increased focus and motivation in training.

“I think the players’ efforts in practice have changed for the better, but we are still on the way to our goal.” He added, “Hopefully, all the players will continue to give that effort until the end of the season.”

Stallion have historically presented a tough and physical matchup for Kaya, so the boys will need to be on their game throughout all 90 minutes tomorrow. The last two matches have done wonders for the team’s confidence, and they’ll be looking to ride that momentum to a third straight win.

“The players are in very good condition and the team’s atmosphere is very good too, so I think we just have to continue to work hard every day to achieve victory,” Hoshide said.
