Ready for the Challenge: Kenshiro Daniels Eyes a Kaya Breakthrough The Kaya winger draws on past battles and Thai League experience as Iloilo prepare for Thursday's clash with BG Pathum United.
With two hard-fought games already behind them in their AFC Champions League Two campaign, Kaya FC–Iloilo are aiming to turn effort into points when they face Thailand’s BG Pathum United this Thursday at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium. For winger Kenshiro Daniels, belief and focus remains strong within the squad.
“We are approaching the game with confidence,” said Daniels. “We showed in Pohang we can defend well and stay structured, and it was unfortunate that we conceded late in that game. This time we’re going to try to build on that last performance in Korea.”
Having played in the Thai League himself, Daniels’ familiarity with the opposition’s style could prove valuable as Kaya look to break through.
“Playing in Thailand has definitely helped me out for a game like this,” he shared. “I understand the Thai style of football better, and I’ll hopefully be able to give my team some good info, as well as be able to apply myself well in the game if called upon.”
BG Pathum, meanwhile, boast plenty of pedigree and quality. Longtime Thai star Chanathip Songkrasin remains a key figure for the Rabbits, recently proving he still has his shooting boots on with a late goal against Tampines Rovers in their last outing.
This meeting with BG Pathum carries extra weight for Daniels, who was part of the Kaya side that faced the same club during their first-ever Champions League campaign back in 2021. Four years later, the setting—and the stakes—feel different.
“Four years ago, we played both games away at their stadium. This time around we get to play at home, so we should get a boost from that,” he said. “Personally, I’ve played against BG five times now, including scoring a goal my last time playing against them. So I’m definitely more confident this time around going into these two games.”

As one of Kaya’s most experienced players, Daniels approaches these continental fixtures with composure and perspective. Having started his career as one of the younger faces in Kaya’s early Asian campaigns—and with valuable experiences from other clubs along the way—he now returns as a veteran presence, bringing both maturity and confidence to the squad.
“I go into these big games the same as before really, albeit maybe with more confidence,” he explained. “I’ve played in big games, so I know physically and mentally what to expect. But I still go into them with excitement and just an eagerness to get out there and enjoy the moment.”
And with the team returning to New Clark City for another historic night, Daniels has a simple message for Kaya’s supporters.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the game, hopefully cheering us on!” he said. “We’ll go out there and give our absolute best and try to get a good result for everyone watching at the stadium and at home.”
Kaya FC–Iloilo face BG Pathum United this Thursday, October 23, in their third AFC Champions League Two group stage match. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium.
