Shandong, China — Despite temperatures in Jinan plunging into the single digits, the Philippine champs are getting ready to bring the heat. Kaya FC-Iloilo’s final AFC Champions League away fixture is an opening night rematch with Chinese Super League powerhouse Shandong Taishan FC.

Acknowledging the formidable task at hand, Head Coach Colum Curtis emphasizes the team’s enthusiasm for the upcoming match—his squad determined to get a result in an uphill battle in unfamiliar conditions.

“We’re aware of the difficult challenge that we face, but it’s a game that we’re excited for,” Coach stated.

This Iloilo side’s limited experience in the cold will come into play on Tuesday night. The team explored the city while acclimating their bodies to the climate, and were warmed by the friendly reception from the locals.

“It’s been a good experience here,” said defender Audie Menzi. “It’s very cold, but I hope we manage tomorrow and take home the win.”

Drawing inspiration from the valiant display in their opening night encounter, Coach Curtis remains confident in the squad’s ability to disrupt the CSL outfit’s gameplans. Kaya’s on-field performance has improved with each match they’ve played—and while getting points here would be difficult, triumph is not out of the question.

“The players did so well in the first game,” answered Coach Curtis. “We were well in there until the last moments, so we hope tomorrow that we can come here and spoil the party—maybe come away with a point, or maybe all three.”

The match will be streamed live via the AFC’s YouTube channel, kickoff at the Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium is at 8:00 PM Philippine Time. Una Kaya!
