Kaya FC–Iloilo Hosts Clinic and Friendly In Lieu of Forfeited PFL Match Kaya FC–Iloilo made the most of an unfortunate PFL match cancelation on Wednesday afternoon.

Although still reeling from the disappointment of Global Cebu’s forfeiture, Kaya FC–Iloilo ensured there was still an afternoon of football to enjoy at the Iloilo Sports Complex. Despite only one day to organize, 130 kids, aged 4-16, showed up to the venue to participate in a clinic run by the First Team players. After, Kaya FC–Iloilo played their first match at the ISC, a friendly with Central Philippine University.

“I was really pleased with the turnout. The kids all looked like they had a great time. Hopefully, the ones that stayed behind to watch us play CPU got glimpses of the First Team in action, and are excited to watch the team play on the 20th,” said Team Manager Chris Greatwich.

The friendly against CPU, one of Iloilo’s finest collegiate football outfits, put up a valiant effort, particularly in the first half, with only an own goal separating the two sides. In the second period, Kenshiro Daniels started the scoring with a clinical finish. Then, Robert Lopez Mendy fired in a goal either side of an assist to Janrick Soriano to cap a 5-0 victory.

“First of all, thanks to the players and coaches of CPU for coming out on such short notice. For us, it was a real worthwhile exercise. We hadn’t had a game in a week and a half, so it was nice for us to get out on the pitch and get familiarized with the surface,” said Greatwich.

“I thought some players really stood out. Dean Ebarle played really well, so did Mike Menzi – two young players who are new to the squad, that really gave a good account of themselves. It’s great to see [Robert Lopez] Mendy back on the scoresheet with two really good goals. Generally, I was very pleased with our play.”

After the friendly, there was a meet and greet, allowing supporters an opportunity to get up close and personal with Kaya FC–Iloilo’s players and coaches. The team flew back to Manila on the same night, as they begin preparations for Saturday’s match (4pm, May 5, at Biñan Football Stadium) against JPV Marikina.
