Kaya FC-Iloilo is excited to announce the signing of Quincy Julian Boltron Kameraad. The Filipino-Dutch goalkeeper is the current starter for the Philippines’ U23 side and has already experienced getting called up to the Azkals proper. He’ll be joining fellow shot-stoppers Zach Banzon and Kenry Balobo in a loaded position group, one that Kaya will have little to worry about for the foreseeable future.

Quincy follows in his father and brother’s footsteps when it comes to taking up the gloves, both having played the positions themselves. The 21-year-old considers their example to be the biggest reason as to why he posted up between the sticks himself.

“I started actually as a striker.” Kameeraad revealed. “But my brother and dad are goalkeepers and I wanted to follow in their footsteps, and I ended up better than them!” he remarked jokingly.

Having been born into a family of footballers, he got the chance to learn the game through the academy system in the Netherlands. It wouldn’t be long before he showed up on the country’s radar, and his first appearance for the Philippines came when he was called up to the National U19 side when he was just 16-years-old.

At the pro level, he initially moved to the country for an ill-fated stint with Global FC, before returning to join the Azkals Development Team in 2020.

Getting the opportunity to represent his mother’s homeland has been a blessing for the young netminder, who appears to be relishing the mantle as well as the responsibilities that come with it. The young keeper had this to say when asked about the Philippine flag-inspired tattoo on his arm.

“The Philippines has always felt like my home and I’ve spent a lot of my life here, especially the last four years. It’s dedicated to my debut in the U19s back in 2017, and I got it tatted right before I came to ADT.”

Though he’s no stranger to big games, Quincy’s about to be thrown straight into the fire for the first time at the club level—as his likely debut for Iloilo will be in Bali during the AFC Cup 2022 Group Stage. Daunting as that may be, he himself seems more than up for the challenge.

“Going there, obviously you’ll play against the top teams in Southeast Asia. It’s not going to be the easiest job, but I think with the current squad we have, I don’t see a problem for us going through to the next round.”

Standing at 6’1 ft. with broad shoulders and a wide wingspan, Kameraad not only presents an imposing figure in front of goal, but his calm and disciplined decision-making makes him a viable threat with the ball at his feet. Citing Manchester City’s Ederson as an inspiration, the sweeper keeper’s influence is evident in the way he plays.

Given he just had his twenty-first birthday this past February, the only way is up for Quincy who still has plenty of room to grow his game—especially when you consider the fact that he’s already one of the best goalkeepers in the country.

The highlight saves he makes in service to the Philippine flag will now also be made to defend the yellow and black, and there’s no place better to showcase them than on the continental stage.
