Kaya FC-Iloilo would like to announce the departure of Marwin Angeles, who has signed with Indonesian side Persik Kediri. The Filipino-Born/Italian-Raised Midfielder has been a Kaya mainstay since joining the club in 2017, prior to the inaugural season of the Philippines Football League. The Vice-Captain’s been an invaluable member of the roster these past five years, and helped bring the club Copa Paulino Alcantara Championships in 2018 and 2021.

“We’re very grateful for Marwin’s time with the club. He took a chance making a big switch and made some bigger sacrifices, especially in the last year,” Kaya President and GM Paul Tolentino weighed in.

“He brought us two trophies, two memorable goals in the AFC Cup and the ACL. Maru grew into his Vice-Captain role at the club, and left after bringing us another championship,” he added. “We’re very grateful and want to wish him the best of luck on his new challenge, of which he’s earned and fully deserves.”

Angeles has been a constant, reassuring presence on the pitch, with his ball control and connective passing as well as his role as the team’s main disruptor. He also made sure to leave his mark on the scoring sheet, not only having scored Kaya’s first ever goal in the PFL, but also the first ever goal by a Filipino in the AFC Champions League group stage.

“Farewells are not easy, especially when my time with Kaya has been so valuable. All the knowledge and experience I’ve gained here will follow through to this next chapter of my career,” said Marwin.

“I can’t thank everyone that I was involved with in the last past 5 years enough, with so many beautiful memories that I will keep forever in my heart and mind,” Angeles added. “And a special mention to Paul [Tolentino], who believed in me and wanted me to play for this jersey for so long, and I’m proud to say we did make some history!”

“Always, UNA KAYA!!!”
