Marwin Angeles: We Can’t Afford to Treat Teams Lightly Co-captain Marwin Angeles reveals the team's focus ahead of the Mendiola match.

June 19, 2019 News

Despite getting a third straight victory over the weekend, the 1-0 scoreline seemed a point of disappointment for the team. What was the focus in training after that match?

The focus in training was totally different after the game against Global. Like what the coaches said, it was maybe a bad day for us, where nothing was going the way we wanted. You could see already in the next session that everyone was very motivated and concentrated. We need to change, to have the mindset where we can’t afford to treat any team lightly because, it might cause us problems in the long run. But as what I said earlier, the team responded well in training, and I hope we can replicate that in the next game.

As a regular fixture in the center of midfield, you’ve been having a particularly outstanding start to the season. Have you changed anything in your approach this year?

To be honest, I’m just doing my work. I think I can still give more, and I hope I can do more than what I am doing right now. It’s always nice to receive compliments from outsiders, but it will be the coaches decision to reward me with more playing time if I do standout. There have been changes in my private life. I’ve been a bit less worried with some problems, so I can focus more on what I love to do most. Also, I think the responsibilities that coach Noel [Marcaida] and Yu [Hoshide] have given me for the team have forced me to, one way or another, step up.

What are you expecting in the match against Mendiola FC 1991?

Well all respect to Mendiola, we’re approaching the game looking to win in all aspects of the game. With the way it ended against Global, I hope that my teammates are hungry to do well. I hope we play not just to win, but the way we have to win the game is important. We should be in control, even though we know that we can’t underestimate our opponent.
