On the Horizon: A Vital Week in Iloilo A game against Stallion and back-to-back matches against Ceres Negros are what's in store for Kaya FC–Iloilo in the coming weeks.

Unbeaten at the Iloilo Sports Complex in four matches, Kaya FC–Iloilo will be banking on the comforts of home to power the club through a vital eight-day stretch in the 2018 Philippines Football League.

Kaya first hosts Stallion Laguna on July 4, before taking on the defending champions and current league leaders, Ceres Negros, in back-to-back matches on July 7 & 11. With the league entering into its final two months, the upcoming games present a massive opportunity for second placed Iloilo, to create further separation from third placed Davao Aguilas, and to cut into the gap at the top.

After 15 matches, Kaya FC–Iloilo has amassed 29 points, nine less than Negros, who has played a game more. The upcoming pair of matches at the Iloilo Sports Complex will be the final meetings of the two teams this season. Ceres won the first encounter, 2-1, at the Panaad Stadium, then lost the rematch in Bacolod, 2-0, a month later. In Negros’ first visit to Iloilo earlier in June, the sides settled for a 1-1 draw, keeping the season series evenly balanced. Given the nature of the recent games between the two teams, July 7 & 11 promise to be explosive encounters with plenty of excitement and drama.

But even before the challenge of consecutive matches against the reigning AFC Cup ASEAN Zone Champions, Kaya first has to deal with the tricky challenge of Stallion – a club that actually originated in Iloilo, before officially transferring to Laguna last year.

Currently in fourth place, Laguna has blown hot and cold this season, with seven wins and seven losses. Kaya and Stallion have met twice this season, with Laguna taking first blood in a 3-1 win at Biñan, and Kaya snatching the second encounter, 4-1, in the club’s final game in Makati. The July 4 clash should prove an intriguing affair, especially as it will take place in Iloilo, where Stallion traces its roots, and where Kaya now proudly calls home.

Three matches in a week is a daunting proposition, regardless of the opposition. But Kaya FC–Iloilo will be entering this vital stretch of games carrying the momentum of two consecutive wins — the last of which was a commanding 4-2 triumph over JPV Marikina at home. With confidence high, and armed with the support of passionate Ilonggos in the stands, anything is possible.
