Stallion Claw Kaya, Win 2-1

Stallion FC banked on a second half revival to defeat Kaya FC, 2-1, in Sunday’s United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

It was a morale-boosting win for the Iloilo side after their 3-3 draw against Green Archers United last week. On the other hand, Kaya dropped to fourth place and are now level with Stallion at 28 points. Kaya are ahead due to a better goal difference.

Kaya could have gone ahead in the 11th minute when Louis Clark sent a cross that was tipped away by Johann Noetzel. OJ Porteria recovered the ball but his shot went wide of the post.

Matthew Nierras had a chance for Stallion in the 21st minute. The defender sent a well taken free kick on goal but Nick O’Donnell blocked the shot.

Clark almost put Kaya ahead with seconds left before half-time. The winger fired a driven shot on goal but Noetzel foiled it with a one-handed save. The first half ended scoreless.

It was Kaya that went ahead eight minutes into the second half. Samuel Bonney was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box and Clark converted the ensuing penalty.

Stallion skipper Ruben Doctora Jr. scored the equalizer in the 61st minute. O’Donnell stood rooted to his line as Doctora’s header went into the top-right corner.

Jordan Mintah turned the match around in the 79th minute. The forward sneaked past the offside trap and sent a chip past O’Donnell  and with that goal handed Stallion the full three points.
