Kaya and Pachanga Settle For a Draw, Green Archers Downs Pasargad

Neither Kaya nor Pachanga PLDT Home Fibr was happy after battling to a 1-1 draw in the UFL 1st Division on Saturday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City. Both goals were scored in the second half in a match that could’ve gone either way. Reynald Villareal was the hero as Green Archers United beat Pasargad 3-1 in the earlier game.

Shayan Jafari scored almost immediately after the break to put Pachanga in the lead. The new signing from 2nd Division side Union Internacional Manila fired a low shot from a tight angle to beat new Kaya keeper Manuel Saubach. Substitute Miguel Tanton responded with a thumping header from Anton Del Rosario’s long throw in the 70th minute to set up a wild finish to the game. Both goalkeepers were called into action as the two teams pushed for a winner. Hong Bo Sim’s long range strike was tipped onto the crossbar by Saubach, while Steve Yambou pushed out Richard Greer’s curler just before the final whistle.

“Dapat panalo,” said Pachanga head coach Noel Marcaida. “Hindi namin na maximize yung kawalan nung dalawang key players nila, si (OJ) Porteria at si (Chris) Greatwich.”

Kaya coach David Perkovic wasn’t one for mincing words in the post-match press conference as he blasted the officiating of the game. “I’m sick and tired of hopeless refereeing. The linesman half the time isn’t even looking at the ball, so how does he know it’s offside? I’m sick and tired of outcomes of games being determined by the referees. Today was absolutely disgusting refereeing.”

Third-placed Kaya is now eight points adrift 1st Division leaders Loyola Meralco Sparks with a total of 21 after 12 matches. Pachanga moved down to eighth in the standings with 11 points after ten matches.
