Kaya Thrash Philippine Army, Stallion Heap More Misery On Pasargad

Both Kaya FC and Stallion Gilligan’s were able to string together their first winning streaks of the 2014 League last Thursday at the Emperador Stadium. Kaya went ahead just 46 seconds into their match, setting the platform for a devastating 9-1 mauling of Philippine Army-GTI.

“These teams that sometimes lose by big margins, if they get a good start in the game, they make it difficult for you. An example would be the Socceroo versus Loyola match,” Kaya head coach David Perkovic said after the match. “It’s good for us to make sure that we’re disciplined in every game that we approach. If you take any team lightly, you’ll have difficulties with any team.”

Teenage standouts OJ Porteria and Kenshiro Daniels were once again crucial to victory, combining for five goals in the one-sided affair. Veteran Japanese defender Masanari Omura headed in what could be the fastest goal scored in UFL history to open the scoring. Chris Greatwich doubled the advantage just five minutes later. Porteria and Daniels took over after that, with the former completing his hat-trick four minutes into the second period. Emmanuel Mbata and Jovin Bedic got in on the scoring as well. The only blemish to Kaya’s performance was an 89th minute goal from Ricardo Becite.

The victory was sweetened by news that the team’s 0-0 draw against Green Archers United back in February 1 was to be changed into a 3-0 win in favor of Kaya. After a review, Green Archers were found guilty of fielding a sixth foreign player with a minute left in the match, violating the foreigner cap rule, which states there should be a limit of five on the field at any given point in time. The decision means an additional two points being added to Kaya’s point tally, moving them level on points with second placed Global with 15. Perkovic’s side is now just four points away from league leaders Loyola, which they play on Tuesday. Army suffered its third straight defeat, keeping it stationary in sixth place in the First Division.

“Although we would like to win the game on its merits in the 90 minutes, the rules are put in place for a reason, so it’s unfortunate for Archers that they made a mistake,” said Kaya’s Australian coach. “I’m not pleased about getting an extra two points in that matter, but the rules are the rules.”
