Kaya FC Gear Up for Away Clash with Cebu PFL 2022 — Quotes from Kenry Balobo and Quincy Kammeraad; DH Cebu Match Preview Part 1

For the first time since 2018, Kaya FC-Iloilo are set to embark on a real PFL away trip for a date with Dynamic Herb Cebu FC.

Iloilo took home a 3-0 victory in the last edition of the Visayas Derby, but this rematch presents an entirely new challenge: toppling the Gentle Giants in their home stadium and in front of a raucous Cebu crowd. But more than just being one of the most anticipated legs of the league season, it’s also a homecoming for two Kaya players

“It’s gonna be an exciting match, and I can’t wait to be there and give all our best for the win!” stated Kaya goalkeeper and native Cebuano Kenry Balobo.

He added. “It’s a milestone for my career to play in my hometown, especially because my family & friends will be there to watch it live. I can’t wait to make them proud.”

Joining him in this sentiment is fellow netminder Quincy Kammeraad, whose family origins could be traced to Central Visayas as well.

“Going back to Cebu is always special for me: my mom is from there and my grandfather still lives there, so for me it feels like going home,” Quincy opined.

“I used to go to Cebu as much as possible before I got into the academy, and chances were very limited because of the short holidays we had,” he explained. “But I have been to Cebu—maybe 9-10 times already—to visit my family, see where my mom grew up, and learn about where the family roots are from.”

For the first time in their respective careers, these two keepers will be travelling back to their home province for an official match. It’s been a while since professional football has graced the region, but the memories of games’ past are still fondly remembered today.

“The crowd in Cebu is always on top, I saw it with my bare eyes when global Cebu played in Abellana back in 2017,” reminisced Kammeraad. “I’m expecting to see the same atmosphere from the Cebuanos this weekend. I’m happy that we get to play in a sold-out stadium, and really looking forward to returning to Cebu.”

Balobo’s no less hyped for Sunday’s fixture, stating, “It’s very special to me given that I grew up in Cebu; my dream is to represent my city, and play the sport I love in the place where my journey started.”

That dream’s set come true sooner rather than later, as Kaya gets ready for what’s shaping up to be one of the best fixtures of the 2022 PFL Season.
