Kaya FC Back in the Driver’s Seat, Seek to Extend Season Lead PFL 2022 — Stallion Match Preview and Quotes from Coach Yu Hoshide

October 28, 2022 News

Following last weekend’s PFL action, Kaya FC-Iloilo’s 4-1 victory over Maharlika Manila FC has secured the yellow and black’s current place atop the standings. Even when taking into account other clubs’ games in hand, Iloilo have accumulated enough points and a decent lead in goal difference to be firmly in the driver’s seat—their fate now rests in their own hands.

Head Coach Yu Hoshide noted the team’s high spirits this week coming off back-to-back wins in impressive fashion.

“The team’s morale has been growing even higher after the win against Maharlika. It is very positive for the team now that all players are doing their roles well, not just in the game but even in training also, ”Hoshide stated. “I want the players to keep this high intensity for the next game against Stallion as well.”

The previous two fixtures saw wholesale changes to the starting eleven, with Coach Yu cycling through the roster and giving Kaya’s depth some well-deserved time in the limelight. That approach has certainly been successful so far, which reflects well on the club’s penchant for lineup flexibility.

“We have a different lineup for every game because we base our decision on the results from training every day,” explained Hoshide. “It is a real challenge for the players, but they’re all growing and training at a high intensity. It’ll be hard to decide this week as well, because all our players deserve to play in the next game.”

Stallion Laguna FC have also been on a run of good form and have dug into their spot in the top four. Prior to their break last week, the pink shirts racked up three consecutive victories and they appear to have found their midseason stride—winning each game comfortably and finishing with a clean sheet.

Kaya will be looking to further cement their status as league leaders, but the boys will need to be on point to overcome the daunting challenge of playing Laguna on their home ground.

Coach Yu is of the same mind, stating, “Stallion always gives us a hard time and they’re for sure really motivated when playing against us.”

“It’ll be another tough game on Saturday; but whoever the opponent, we will do what we have to do!”, he added. “I am really looking forward to seeing our players go out there and show their quality.”

Iloilo’s penultimate match of Round 2 has been moved to Sunday, October 30 due to inclement weather. We hope to see you there at the Biñan Football Stadium, kickoff’s at 4:00 PM and you can also catch the Livestream from home on the PFL’s Facebook and YouTube pages!
