Kaya FC Look to Maintain Winning Ways After Dominant Victory PFL 2022 — Mendiola Match Preview and Quotes from Coach Yu Hoshide

October 22, 2022 News

Coming off a commanding 7-0 win over Mendiola FC 1991, Kaya FC-Iloilo are looking to hop off their rollercoaster run of form and stay on an upwards trajectory. With the second half of the PFL’s second round upon us, the boys need to to avoid dropping points if they want to hold on to the top spot in the standings.

Coach Yu Hoshide had nothing but praise for his squad following last week’s showing in Imus. “I really appreciate all the players and their performance,” he stated. “We had six new starters so it was a little bit of a challenge, and they answered back really well.”

Rather than the final scoreline being a point of emphasis, Coach Yu was more impressed by the team’s execution as a whole—from their control of the midfield to their reliability at the back.

“The attacking players did really well, but it was the clean sheet that impressed me. From the goalkeeper on, all eleven plus players worked really hard.” Hoshide added, “I really appreciate their performance, they played focused for all 90 minutes. That’s what was impressive and what I appreciate.”

Maharlika Manila have had a rough season to this point, currently sitting at the bottom of the standings as they’ve undergone a mixture of roster overhauls, coaching changes, and poor luck in critical moments. However, they’ve displayed a capacity for upsets as recently as the Copa Paulino Alcantara, and Iloilo will need to stay vigilant if they want to make strides in the title race.

“I’m really happy for the team’s uphill performance, and I also realize that the players are really hungry to play. They showed what they can do, and our depth is a really good thing for the team” Coach noted, manifesting Kaya’s turning of the corner. “The players are still hungry to play, so I’m sure they will perform really well these last three games.”
