League Opener Sees Defending Champions Stumble

Kaya breezed past Philippine Army in a match where OJ Porteria shined brightly. The youngster earned and dispatched a late penalty in the first half to score the only goal of the opening period – a return not matching the team’s complete dominance. Army managed to keep the contest close to start the second period, but Chris Greatwich tapped in from a rebound to open the floodgates. FA League Cup golden boot, Louis Clark, got the third, with Porteria capping the victory off with a delicious volley. Despite the win, though, both head coach Adam Reekie, and man of the match Porteria, were rather disappointed with the 4-0 triumph.

“Obviously winning and scoring four goals is good. It makes the start easier. But we weren’t too happy with how we played, there’s certainly room for improvement there,” said Kaya head coach Adam Reekie, sentiments that were echoed by Porteria.

“We could’ve scored more. It could’ve been anyone who was man of the match. I think the guys played well today. But I was just unhappy not finishing certain chances I could’ve finished,” said Porteria.
